The budget cuts more than 1,200 positions, with most of the cuts comingh from early retirements and leaving openpositionw empty. About 370 are most of which havealready occurred. There’s also a 3.1 percent increase on in-state tuition for undergraduates. Most graduate students couldr seea 7.5 tuition increased and law students could see their tuition go up by as much as 15 University President Robert Bruininks, though, is arguing that federao economic stimulus funds and other aid could actually reducer costs for 60 percent of undergraduate studentss paying in-state tuition. The $2.98 billiojn budget takes into accountan $81.
88 million reduction in state funding to the school for the upcominv fiscal year. Also on Wednesday, the board voted to ban alcohop sales at TCFBank Stadium, which is openingh on campus this fall. The universityg had initially planned to sell alcoholpin high-cost suites at the football stadium, but the statee Legislature then passed a measure requiring university to give equa access to alcohol throughout the stadium. Alcohol sales are also banned atthe university’as basketball and hockey facilities.
