The affected workers were from across all museum functions and represent less than 10 percent of thetotakl full-time work force, according to Jennifer Stoffel director of external affaira for the museum. As of April, the museumn had 179 full-time employees and 107 part-time employees. The stafv reductions come after two roundsof buyouts. The museum said in that it face a varietyof challenges, includingf a decline in revenue from the Metropolitan Zoological Park and Museum District, reduced funding from its lower levels of annual giving, lower income from its shop and and a drop in attendance due to the closure of Interstate 64 and the Hampton Avenuse overpass. The institution’s endowment droppesd to $63.6 million as of Feb. 28, down from $87 million on Aug. 31, 2008.
