Oncor seeks $300M in stimulus funds - Kansas City Business Journal:

Oncor will apply for the funds through the Americam Recovery and Reinvestment Actof 2009. The deadline to applty is Aug. 6. Citing data from the Council ofEconomifc Advisers, Oncor believes the stimulus fundsz would support the creation of 1,600 jobs in 2010. If the fundiny is approved, Oncor will spenf the money to deplouy moresmart switches, which will help the energy companyg isolate problems in neighborhoods and reconfigure powef lines. Other enhancements will include controlling the feeded voltage throughthe company’z capacitor control and enhancements that will help the electridc provider locate electric delivery problemsd in a faster, more efficient Oncor said.
In addition, downtown electric networke will be modernizedundert Oncor’s proposed plan. Oncor also is aiming to improvee itstelecommunications network, an improvement that will enhanc the company’s power grid. “Oncor’s vision for a interactive, intuitive electric grid is real, tangible and happening said Oncor Chairman and CEOBob Shapard. “Ou first considerations in seeking theses stimulus grants are whether the funds will help consumers lower their electridc bills or advance smart grid initiativesw to improve serviceand reliability.
